Since 2010, we have been working to develop proposals to help realise the regeneration of this vacant site adjacent to Nottingham Station. In November 2018, on behalf of our clients Sladen Estates, we submitted a hybrid planning application for the first phase of the Unity Square development. Phase 1 comprises circa 276,000 sqft of grade A office space whilst Phase 2 proposes 200,000 sqft more. This will be supplemented by new car parking and high quality landscaping, including an arrival plaza to the front of Phase 1.

Unity Square sits at a key gateway to the Southside Regeneration Area and it is hoped the scheme will provide the much desired regeneration of this area, pulling commercial space across the city and expanding the centre with provision for circa 4,300 employees in the first phase and further opportunity within the second.

Our design carefully responds to the site’s immediate context which includes the grade II* listed Nottingham Station and surrounding heritage assets. The Phase 1 building is characterised by shifting bands of aluminium cladding which are orientated to create visual animation as the sun path tracks around the facade. This captures and reflects the shifting light patterns to provide a modern facade which echoes the decorative Victorian architecture of heritage buildings adjacent.

The top of the building provides a series of tapering panels with a green accent as the building crown. A terrace is provided along the north elevation creating a dialogue with the neighbouring Nottingham Castle and offering extensive city views.
