In August 2017, 5plus achieved detailed planning permission for this residential-led scheme in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

The scheme proposes the retention, repair and change of use of the Grade II listed, 7 Kelvin Street to 3 homes and the addition of 17 new apartments on the remaining site. Activity at ground level is provided by retail uses and the apartment entrance sequence.

We worked closely with Manchester City Council, English Heritage and Heritage Architecture to assess the constraints and opportunities of the existing buildings. The protection and reuse of the listed building was a key priority for the scheme.

Full case study coming soon.

Our design response brings the heritage assets back to life as homes, whilst providing unique, site specific proposals for residential and retail use on the remainder of the site.

The project pays special attention to the unique scale, typology and materiality of Thomas Street and the Northern Quarter.
