The most sustainable residential development in Withington.

In 2019, we were appointed by the client to develop proposals for a site at 402-404 Wilmslow Road, close to the centre of Withington.

The brief was to design a new build apartment scheme for the private rental sector, creating a minimum of 26 apartments with associated parking. The building needs to be extremely robust, extremely sustainable and offer accommodation slightly larger than ‘average’. The client was also keen to ensure that the high quality design will help to improve the streetscape in this part of Withington and act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the high street area.

Our proposals provide a new build residential development for the private rental sector delivering 27 no. generous 1 and 2 bedroom apartments across 4 storeys with associated external terraces / gardens, car parking spaces (with electric car charging points) and amenity space. Large, floor to ceiling windows will provide well-lit living spaces that will be larger than average in size.

The development proposes a small palette of materials that is suitable for the character of the surrounding area and the wider setting of the Conservation Area.

In April 2019 we submitted a detailed planning application for the demolition of the existing building on the site and the construction of this purpose built residential building. In preparation for the submission, numerous pre-application meetings were held including site visits and presentations with:

• Old Moat Councillors

• Withington Regeneration Partnership

Once constructed, the building is anticipated to be the most sustainable residential building in Withington and will offer a high standard of build quality and robustness with an exceptional attention to detail.
