5plus have led the transformation of the iconic 101 Barbirolli Square in Manchester City Centre. We were commissioned by the owners to develop a high-end new look for the building, one of a high profile pair built in the 1990’s that sit across from the Bridgewater Hall. 101 Barbirolli Square is a landmark building located on a gateway site, It sits on the fringe of St Peter’s Square which has undergone significant regeneration in recent years. Our proposals acknowledge the renewed prominence of this area by re-orientating the main entrance.
Internally, our response has been to strip the building back, introducing new curtain walling to the atrium and the use of high quality, simple finishes to create a very sophisticated, bespoke space. We have collaborated with a number of galleries and art colleges to source a large piece of artwork for installation into the elegant new atrium entrance.
We were commissioned to design the building identity and signage. This included iconography, wayfinding, floor numbers, tenant directories and supergraphics in the basement, car park and cycle storage areas.
