In 2011, Manchester City Council approved a Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF) for an area of Castlefield adjoining Water Street. The area covered by the SRF included land to the east of Water Street known as Castlefield Industrial Estate and beyond that an area known as Potato Wharf.

We were appointed to comprehensively review the SRF to reflect the changes in Manchester’s economic priorities and market conditions as well as the site’s strategic and regeneration context. The SRF focuses on making a positive environment around the River Irwell, creating positive mixed use environments and embracing connections through the site.

Through detailed site analysis and contextual appraisals we have created a series of urban design and development principles to ensure that the site as a whole will come forward in a cohesive and comprehensive manner. Maximising the strategic regeneration, economic and place-making opportunities that the site affords.
