Trafford Borough Council has approved our updated plans for the transformation of Urmston Leisure Centre. This is an important milestone on the journey to turn the dated building into an attractive fit for purpose leisure facility for the local community.
The project began as a simple refurbishment of the dated community facility for our long standing clients Trafford Borough Council and Trafford Leisure, but the potential of the building soon became clear and it was agreed to be more ambitious in our proposals.
While retaining the bulk of the building the changes to the end user will be significant.
The pool and sports hall components are to be retained and refurbished whilst a new double height glazed elevation will transform the front of the building. This space integrates a climbing wall and mezzanine gym floor alongside a new reception and café facility at the heart of the building.
The design re thinks the traditional concept of cellular fitness suites as rooms off corridors and expresses them as activity zones within the new build element which are highly visible and a beacon for the new Urmston Leisure Centre.
The project is part of our expanding portfolio of work in the leisure sector and reinforces our ongoing agenda to promote health and wellbeing. Work is scheduled to start on site in spring 2019.
