MSA 2nd Year Pavilion Project ‘Strata’

5plus have sponsored the MSA 2nd Year Pavilion Project ‘Strata’.

Five sites were chosen in the grounds of Dunham Massey, Altrincham, Cheshire by National Trust staff for Year 2 students from the Manchester School of Architecture to design a pavilion or folly, intended to be constructed and placed on public display during the winter of 2012-2013, five pavilion’s from fifty were then chosen by The National Trust to be built, Strata was one of the winning designs.

Strata, inspired by the interiors of caves formed through erosion forming a captivating, organic and dynamic environment. The form was derived through these ideas and mirrored the encapsulating interiors of a natural cave through the layering of planes within our design.

The horizontal planes provide shelter from the elements and create frames of the beautiful views whilst also creating an interesting and dynamic environment within the shelter for children and families to observe and experience the gardens.
