Trafford Borough Council has approved our plans for the transformation of Urmston Leisure Centre.
It’s an important milestone on the journey to turn the dated building into an attractive fit for purpose sports facility and follows extensive consultation with the local community.
While retaining the bulk of the building the changes will be significant. The awkward front section of the building will be replaced with a double height welcoming lounge/café area and touch screens where you can book yourself into classes and find space to meet friends.
Large coloured pods to either side provide for new studios, changing, children’s party rooms and a climbing wall. A new large gym will be created at first floor between the pods, running from the front of the building through to the pool hall space with views down to the refurbished pool.
The £6.5m investment underpins the Borough’s commitment to Health and Well-Being set out in ‘The Trafford Partnership Vision’
Jo Cherrett, Chief Operating Officer at Trafford Leisure said: “From the beginning 5plus have totally understood what we are trying to achieve with this building and have helped to turn both our own thoughts and those of the local community into something really exciting, ensuring the customer experience has been at the heart of their design. I can’t wait to see it open fully at the turn of the year.”
The project is part of our expanding portfolio of retrofit and new build work in the leisure sector and we are currently drawing up a feasibility strategy for Stretford Leisure Centre in Trafford.
